Name
RIISE
Research Institute for an Inclusive Society through Engineering
Vision
RIISE aims to design and systematize problem-solving methods to create an inclusive society where everyone can benefit from technological innovation.
Mission & Strategy
New collaborations that vertically and horizontally link and merge various academic
disciplines are essential to solving humanity's many social problems today.
The University of Tokyo Research Institute for an Inclusive Society through Engineering (RIISE)
is a transdisciplinary organization with seven departments at the University of Tokyo.
We work with the private sector to design an "ideal future vision" for an inclusive society. In
addition, we combine the technologies from various departments of the University of Tokyo that
are core to realizing this vision. We also dynamically establish laboratories as joint research
centers with private companies and others. Through long-term social collaboration, we engage in
research and education to realize our vision.
Organizational Structure
RIISE, established on October 1, 2019 as one of the "Social Cooperation Research Departments,"
is an organization in which several departments and others collaborate for a period of time to
promote the creation of a new academic field through the fusion of disciplines beyond existing
institutional boundaries.
